Bronze rudder tube assembly is the most popular of rudder configurations. It is designed for through hull installations. The flange of the tube is bolted to the hull and the top is supported by a transverse floor.

Fiberglass rudder tube assembly is popular for use on fiberglass vessels because the tube can be fibreglassed into the boat to become an integral part of the vessel.

Rudder blades can vary in shape from flat blades on displacement vessels to wedge shape blades on high speed vessels and are produced from either bronze or stainless steel.
